Robert Oberstein
Robert Oberstein came to the United States in 1961 through Operation Peter Pan, traveling first through Jamaica and arriving later in Miami. From Miami, he was sent to Detroit, Michigan, where he lived with a foster family until he was reunited with his parents. He was drafted into the US Army in 1972 and served until 1976. He served in the US Army Reserve until 1984 before becoming a TSA agent. He is now retired.
After speaking with Robert, I gained insight into how all of the children involved in the Operation, regardless of their backgrounds, benefited society. For example, Robert served in the US Army although he was not a native-born citizen of our country.
